Garnet clusters

Another pair of earrings I put together while on set as an extra. Faceted garnets, courtesy of Turquoise Magpie, and sterling silver.

New design...

I'm experimenting with some new work involving weaving and wrapping sterling silver and tiny faceted gemstones. It's a popular style, but one I haven't really tried yet. This is my first freeform attempt, made with sterling silver and pink tourmaline. My darling partner had nicknamed it "shrimpy" and it's kind of stuck.

Ugandan paper beads

So there's a bead store in Oakville that helps women in Uganda out of poverty (and the rock quarries they would normally find work in), by directing the women in terms of styles and colours, and then purchasing the paper beads they make for resale. The benefits are three-fold: first, we get to help women who would otherwise be working very dangerous, low-paying jobs to be creative and independent; second, they recycle old newspapers and magazines, and we all know how awesome recycling is; third, they are so pretty and unusual, and practically NO ONE will be wearing the same thing! The first uses amethyst and sterling with Czech seed beads, and the second uses natural turquoise chips from Turquoise Magpie and silver Delica beads.

Spring daisies

I have had these moonstone teardrops in my stash since early fall, and didn't quite know what to do with them...until they found themselves beneath a necklace I had started with the copper daises and green seed beads! I saw the combination and decided to run with it.

Pearl Cluster goodness

Get ready for a series of new posts! I haven't photographed any of my new work in AGES, and I'm finally beginning to catch up. I've been working as an extra on the show Raj is producing for Showcase, and that means lots of time WAITING. Bring along some beads, wire and tools and that equals lots of time for making JEWELLERY! Here are a few pairs of earrings I cooked up yesterday on set. The silver ones are sterling, and the golden ones are 24k gold-plated. Enjoy!

custom clip-on earrings

My favourite pianist that I work with just recently found out that I make jewellery (I'm not sure how it took so long to tell her, but it did!), and quickly commissioned an order as a birthday present for a mutual colleague in the music world, actually my singing teacher! The catch? Her ears aren't pierced. So I found a great pair of sterling silver clip-ons, and together we came up with the colours and stones, and this was what I came up with. The big stone is Kyanite, and the smallers ones are Aquamarine and Goshenite.

She's getting them today! I hope she likes them.
